The Latin American Police Association (LAPA) would like to recognize 14th Ward Alderman Edward M. Burke, Chicago Park District President Jesse H. Ruiz, and Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Michael Kelly for their support and efforts to have “Walnut Park” renamed and dedicated in honor of Chicago Police Officer Irma C. Ruiz who was killed in the line of duty on September 22, 1988. The “Irma C. Ruiz” park will serve as a reminder of Officer Ruiz’s strength and courage.
